A message from the Stake Presidency: Give your marriage the time and effort it deserves.
President Gordon B. Hinckley, shared an important key to a great marriage:
"A happy marriage is not so much a matter of romance as it is an anxious concern for the comfort and well-being of one's companion."
If you want a happy marriage, do what happily married couples do. New perspectives come with time away from the mundane. That means dating is essential.
We asked ward and stake leaders for "date night" ideas. Here are some of them:
- Go out to get a scoop of ice cream.
- Take a sunset walk around the block together.
- Visit a museum or library together. Here's some ideas:
- The Huntington Library (https://huntington.org/ )
- Peterson Automotive Museum (https://www.petersen.org/)
- Los Angeles County Museum of Art (https://www.lacma.org/)
- Reagan Presidential Library (https://www.reaganlibrary.gov/ )
- Sit together while each of you read your own book.
- Go to the temple
- Perform volunteer service together. Great ideas can be found on JustServe.org
- Play a board game (The Benning's like Blokus)
- Take dance lessons (You can find inexpensive or free ones on YouTube and other online resources)
- Go to dinner and a movie.
- Go shopping at the Mall (one bishop and wife have loved doing this since they were dating).
- Bike ride at different venues (Balboa park is great).
- Visit Santa Monica Pier or Malibu Pier (walk/shop and ice-cream/dinner)
- Take a Nature hike (there are many trails around us, some even have waterfalls as a highlight)
- Miniature golfing
- Take a Nature hike (there are many trails around us, some even have waterfalls as a highlight)
- Bowling
- Play arcade games (For example, Dave and Busters in Northridge)
- Go to a play (We have both excellent community playhouses, and world-class broadway shows in our city.)
- Go to the Hollywood Bowl or other concert venue.
